Board-to-board connector manufacturers tell you how to choose connectors? There are many types of connectors, and the common types are communication interface terminals, terminal blocks, wire-to-board connectors, board-to-board connectors, etc. Each category can be subdivided into several categories, such as: board-to-board connectors including pin headers, board-to-board connectors, etc.; Wire-to-board connectors include FPC connectors, IDC sockets, simple horn holders, etc.
So when choosing a connector, we should consider the connector suitable for hardware use?
1. Pin and pitch
The number of pins and pin spacing are the basic basis for connector selection. The number of pins you choose for a connector depends on the number of signals that need to be connected. For some SMD connectors, the number of pins should not be too many in the patch header as shown below. Because in the soldering process of the placement machine, due to the high temperature, the connector plastic will be deformed by heat and bulge in the middle, resulting in virtual soldering of the pins. Our P800Flash programmer used this pin header and header to make inter-board connections in the early stage of development, and the results were that the pins of the prototype pin header were soldered in a large area. After replacing it with a pin header with two pins halved, there was no virtual soldering.
Nowadays, electronic devices are becoming smaller and more precise, and the pin pitch of connectors is also from 2.54mm to 1.27mm to 0.5mm. The smaller the pin pitch, the higher the production process requirements. The pin pitch should be determined according to the company's production process level, blindly pursuing small pitch
2. Electrical performance
The electrical properties of connectors mainly include: limit current, contact resistance, insulation resistance and electrical strength. When connecting a high-power power supply, pay attention to the limit current of the connector; When transmitting high-frequency signals such as LVDS, PCIe, etc., pay attention to the contact resistance. The connector should have a low and constant contact resistance, typically tens of mΩ to hundreds of mΩ.
3. Environmental performance
The environmental performance of the connector mainly includes: temperature resistance, moisture resistance, salt spray resistance, vibration, shock, etc. Choose according to the specific application environment. If the application environment is humid, the requirements for moisture resistance and salt spray resistance of the connector are high to avoid the metal contacts of the connector being corroded. In the field of industrial control, the requirements for the vibration and shock resistance of the connector are high, so as to prevent the connector from falling off during the vibration process.
4. Mechanical properties
of connectors include plugging force, mechanical foolproofing, etc. Mechanical foolproof is very important for the connector, once plugged inverted, it is likely to cause irreversible damage to the circuit!
The insertion force is divided into insertion force and separation force. The relevant standards stipulate Z large insertion force and Z small separation force, from the perspective of use, the insertion force should be small, and the separation force should be large. Too little separation force will reduce the reliability of the contact, but for connectors that often need to be plugged and removed, too much separation force will increase the difficulty of pulling out and reduce the mechanical life.
