Many of our springs are grinded to remove burrs after forming, especially some mechanical springs with precision requirements, which customers will specifically mark on the drawings.

Why should springs be deburred?

First of all, how do the burrs of the spring arise?

Some are caused by the plastic deformation of the cutting process, some are the flash of castings and die forgings, some are extruded during processing, and some are residual materials extruded by welding, etc. With the improvement of industrialization and automation, the accuracy requirements for parts springs are getting higher and higher, and if the burrs are not removed, it will cause many adverse effects. For example: rockets, missiles, springs on aircraft, if the burrs are not removed, the consequences are unimaginable.

Burrs on the spring or falling off metal powder, once into the hydraulic or pneumatic system, will cause serious turbulence or non-laminar flow, will make the filter or pipe blocked, so the hydraulic valve body and pneumatic parts must be removed burrs. In mechanical transmission systems, due to vibration, burrs can fall off, causing system seizure or parts damage. Sometimes, burrs directly impede the mechanical movement of the component, which is particularly noticeable for pistons or spool valves, etc. In the cutting process, if the burr is cushioned on the positioning base surface of the part, the disturbance after clamping is not the real base surface contact, but becomes point contact, which seriously affects the machining accuracy. The same is true during assembly, due to the presence of burrs, resulting in unqualified assembly. If the spring does not remove the burr, it will scratch the worker's hand when loading and unloading the workpiece on the machine tool or when assembling and processing. When subjected to high loads, burrs and sharp edges affect the fatigue strength of the parts and the adhesion to paints and other protective layers, reducing the service life of the parts, and spring burrs also affect the appearance of the parts.

Based on the above serious consequences, a small burr is like mouse poop that falls into a pot of porridge, and must be eliminated in advance.
